Hello world!

Well, this is a bit of an adventure for me.

It all started several weeks ago, when my twin sister decided that she wanted to have a go at some crafts involving a sewing machine. Previous to this we had both been involved in card-making and scrap-booking.

Anyway, Amanda had borrowed a sewing machine from her husband’s Grandmother and she asked me if we might be able to get hold of some sewing machines from the “free-cycle” web-site. I duly placed a “wanted” ad and got a few replies. We didn’t managed to get a newer machine for Amanda but we did manage to get a Jones Model 831 which must be at least 35 years old.

Subsequently, it was my birthday and Amanda had made me a simple patchwork bag for my birthday. This was a fantastic present and I must say I was keen to learn how she made it.

A few days later we went to our local fabric shop and bought some pieces of fabric (Which I later found out are called “Fat Quarters”). I found myself cutting out some 5 inch squares of fabric and starting to make a simple patchwork bag.

A few hours later and with lots of help from my sister, I had managed to make a simple patchwork bag for my daughter. I was delighted with the end product although, I had cut the squares by hand and was not too happy with the accuracy of the cutting.

Being so pleased with the results, I decided to get better acquainted with my sewing machine and I decided to make a small and simple quilt.

  1. Hi Sarah – its fantastic that we have another ‘craft’ we can enjoy together & I am so pleased that my “make-it-up-as-I-went-along” bag inspired you to try something new!

I can’t wait to see what direction this new adventure takes us.
